Live your childhood ballet dreams

Dreamed of dancing on stage? Wearing a tutu? Going en pointe? Being the sugar plum fairy? You have a spot waiting for you at the Broche barre.

Do any of these sound like you?

Recently made a midlife transition?

Feel established in your career and ready for the next challenge?

Emptied your nest or retired and you’re looking to get back in touch with yourself? To rediscover who you are and what you want to create for yourself for the next era?

Or are you already dancing in a ballet studio in your town but you don’t feel at home?

You’re not getting the level of detail or the sense of community that you crave. The teachers are used to teaching kids and they don’t know how to help you and your adult body.

Maybe you are someone who longed for ballet as a child but your parents couldn’t afford to send you to class.

Did you dance as a child but had to give it up for some reason like a negative experience with your teacher or other students, ill-fitting painful pointe shoes, or just life events?

Perhaps you’re raising a family or building a career and it leaves little time for you. But now you are ready to unleash the dancer who has been living inside of you. Waiting for her time to shine.

You want a challenge, you want to study classical ballet, and you want to be a beautiful dancer.

But you also respect your body and want to be healthy and safe to enjoy your next vacation, have energy to dedicate at work, or to spending time with kids or grandkids.

And you don’t feel the need to keep up with the 20 year olds but the senior classes aren’t enough of a challenge.

Then you’ve found the right place

At Broche we combine technical training with artistic development to build your ballet foundation and keep you stay motivated, inspired and engaged along the way.

We teach:

All in a way that helps you get in touch with your body as it is today.

Not as it was before kids or pre-surgery or when you were last dancing.

We explore the body that we live in today with curiosity and compassion as we ask it to turn out, turn, point toes, gain flexibility and strength, and build coordination to allow us to dance beautifully and gracefully.

We uncover our emotions and our self-expression as we connect to the music, and get in touch with ourselves.

We don’t learn like kids.

We teach with curiosity, compassion, respectful critiques, and a combination of instructor-supported classes plus self-guided practice for your specific personal goals and amount of time you can dedicate.

Look, we get it.

You might have vertigo and not want to turn. You might be immune compromised and want to learn but can’t go to a studio. Have bad knees and don’t want to jump.

It’s not about better turnout in 6 weeks or 4 weeks to the perfect pirouette.

You’ll get those things in due time ;)

Broche Ballet is about cultivating a lifestyle of taking time to care for yourself, building confidence, and seeing lasting change.

The Broche community is for you

We are full of midlife and mature dancers with a lifelong dream who finally took the leap.

We celebrate our wins.

Acknowledge and dedicate class time to birthdays, successes, family losses, and support each other as we dance through this phase of life.

Together we shine.

You’ve realized life is short and it’s time to seize the day. Even if you’re a little rusty, have two left feet, never lost the baby weight, or haven’t stepped foot in a ballet studio, it’s time to let the ballerina inside come out and play!

Wear the tutu and tiara. Work towards pointe. Become graceful. Dance on stage. Take a glamorous photo.

Set your heart on fire and join Broche today.

What Broche dancers are saying

The classes here helped me a lot for technique - so I can follow better in group classes
I have learned more from you than I learned in company and even the professional classes I have taken. I learned to do, not the why, and many times not the nuts and bolts. And the site you have created is so vast. I watch all the time and don't begin to scratch the surface! You have invested so much in your teaching. It shows. And it is a precious gift.
I've received more helpful tips and techniques in Broche Ballet classes than I have in the adult open in-studio classes I've attended. Julie always makes the classes fun, interesting, and inspiring. Her ballet classes always leave me in a better mood and are a bright spot in my day!
I am balancing and doing releves again! I am so excited! It has been a long road, but your foot exercises have been better than PT to be honest!
I am so glad that I found you! What a blessing to be instructed by such a caring, passionate, smart, and awesome teacher. You are a jewel. All of your classes are so very good. There are so so many! Thank you for being available and sharing your gift of dance with all of us.

You have so many fantastic teaching points, specific to adult ballet dancers. I'm almost to my 4yr mark with ballet. You have clarified so many technique questions. I really love having all of the classes on videos and your music choices are amazing. Honestly, I think you should write a book of helpful hints or better understanding ballet as an adult. You never make us feel like we're late starters. Thank you for sharing your gift of dance! 🩰
Your content, your teaching, and the sense of community and belonging that you foster is fantastic.
Broche showed me the ballet basics that gave me the confidence to go to in-person classes.
I had some skepticism that Broche Ballet would not have anything new, that wasn't already covered for free on YouTube by people like Kathryn Morgan, Claudia Dean, or other popular ballet channels. Even though I've only done a tiny fraction of the Broche Ballet content, it had things I didn't see other places.
I took my mixed level adult studio class yesterday and was feeling a bit discouraged by how little time there is for breakdowns and attention to details. I then decided to practice the Petit Battment and Arabesque Technique Barres this morning on demand, and got such a deep felt sense of how to work with these concepts in my body!
These explanations are so well done; perfect information density. Not so packed that it's overwhelming, but packed enough that listening feels like time well used. Julie is the first dance instructor whose lectures do not leave me tuning out or looking for the speed up button.
I'm French, living in France, I have access to so many ballet classes. But yours are my favorites. Love how you teach, your energy, your kindness. I progress the most with you. I feel the best when I practice with you
Julie is such an amazing teacher who makes ballet so enjoyable too. Everything is explained so well ... and the vibe is always uplifting and encouraging.
I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you going into so much detail about my individual feet and technique. I have been craving this kind of feedback and knowledge and I have finally received it through your program! I have followed your recommendations (except I do the toe dexterity exercises DAILY because I'm obsessed with ballet 😅), began the beginner winter pointe cohort (I'm in week 12 now) and had a fitting for new pointe shoes. You were right about everything. My toes are getting stronger, I'm getting over the box in my pointe shoes, and I finally feel like I'm improving! I tell all my friends in my local ballet class about Broche ballet and how it has been amazing. I have seen more improvement in 12 weeks than I did in ONE YEAR of local pointe class.
You are an AMAZING teacher. You have helped me so much and the attention you give to small details is more than I can get in my studio classes. You have a gift for teaching!
You created a place where I can do ballet with my broken body and extra weight after cancer treatment. And be happy.
When I tell people in my in-person studio classes that I am also learning on-line, they sort of smile politely and perhaps skeptically. They don't realize that most of my progress is coming from Broche, not from my studio class!
Practicing at home has absolutely improved my in-studio dancing. When I do an extra barre class from home, my teacher has noticed my technique is better maintained week to week and has helped me improve over time.
You have been such an invaluable resource as I come back to dance after 15+ years and your adult-centric pedagogy has helped the form feel that much more inclusive for people like me. Your love of ballet shines through the expansive wealth of resources you share with your students. I just wanted to say thank you so much for making ballet more accessible!
The regular adults Silver Swan classes (for 50+ years) were not providing enough technical detail for me and I was receiving no corrections as the focus, during those classes was mainly on 'keeping fit' and having fun rather than improving classical ballet technique. Then I found Broche at the start of this year and haven't looked back! I am LOVING Broche. No-one else teaches in the way you do Julie.
Your program is insanely comprehensive - I don't think anyone out there is doing what you are doing in such an organized, thoughtful and energetic way, BRAVO!
One of the things I am most proud of accomplishing thanks to Broche Ballet is going en pointe! This was not something I thought I could do as an adult, and I am so excited to have achieved this dream!
You have so many options, great tips, and explain things in such a way you cannot usually get in a studio.
A big thank you for your motivation and providing excellent teaching skills on my pointe journey!
I also just want to say a huge thank you! Having the ability to go en pointe means so much to me and I'm finally accomplishing that! Also your website is literally so good. So so good.
