About This Program
Coming back to ballet after a long hiatus is a unique challenge for the adult dancer. While your brain likely remembers the difference between a tendu and a dégagé, your muscles, joints, and stamina may need a dedicated period of re-adjustment. The Gentle Return to Ballet after a Break program at Broche Ballet is designed to bridge that gap, offering a supportive and structured 5-week curriculum to help you feel like yourself again in the studio.
A Progressive 5-Week Journey
This program is meticulously organized into five weekly modules, totaling over nine hours of instruction across 24 videos. We begin by dusting off the cobwebs with slow and gentle barre work. These sessions prioritize alignment and movement quality over speed or complexity. By focusing on fundamentals like plié and tendu, you allow your body to re-establish its center of gravity and turnout without the risk of overexertion. This approach ensures that you are building a sustainable foundation for your long-term dance practice.
Beyond the Barre: Strength and Flexibility
A return to dance isn't just about the steps; it is about the physical conditioning that supports them. This program includes targeted sessions for hamstring and lower back flexibility, which often tighten during periods of inactivity. You will also engage in deep-dive follow-alongs designed to build turnout strength specifically for fondu and arabesque. For those looking toward future pointe work, the pre-pointe flow helps rebuild the 3/4 pointe strength and demi-pointe stability necessary for advanced levels.
Artistry and Proprioception
As you progress through the weeks, we move into more nuanced aspects of dance. You will explore port de bras techniques to improve shoulder mobility and fluid arm movements. We also include proprioception drills in the center—such as balancing with eyes closed or looking in different directions—to sharpen your spatial awareness. The program culminates in artistry-focused sessions set to the music of Chopin, ensuring that your return to ballet is as expressive as it is technical. By the end of these five weeks, you will have the physical foundation and mental confidence to step back into regular classes with ease.
