About This Video
Ballet is as much a mental journey as it is a physical one. In this guided meditation and journaling session, titled "Reflect on your Preferences," Julie leads you through an introspective exercise designed to harmonize your perspective on your training. At Broche Ballet, we believe that understanding your emotional response to your practice is essential for long-term growth and a sustained enjoyment of the art form.
During this 6-minute session, you will be invited to look honestly at your current ballet journey. The exercise involves dividing a journal page into two distinct columns: your least favorite and your favorite aspects of ballet. It is common for dancers to fixate on the difficulties—perhaps the struggle with a complex pirouette sequence, the fatigue often felt at the barre, or the physical demands of en pointe work.
By listing these challenges in the left column, you acknowledge the reality of your hard work without letting it overwhelm your passion. To create balance, you will then fill the right column with an equal number of favorite elements. This could be anything from the soothing rhythm of a slow plié, the feeling of flight in a sauté, or even the aesthetic joy of a favorite leotard or a specific piece of classical music.
Finding gratitude in these moments—whether they are big milestones or small comforts—is key to sustaining your motivation through the inevitable plateaus of training. This practice helps you navigate the frustrations that naturally arise during technical training. By identifying what you love alongside what you find difficult, you foster a more resilient mindset.
Whether you are working on your arabesque line or mastering a new tendu combination, this session provides the mental tools to stay grounded and inspired. Join us at Broche Ballet to cultivate a more balanced, grateful, and honest relationship with your dance practice.
