About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s foundational practice for mastering the art of the turn. For many adult beginners, the idea of a pirouette can feel intimidating, often leading to physical tension and anxiety. This 10-minute session is designed to strip away the pressure of perfect technique and return to the natural mechanics of movement. We believe that your body already knows how to turn—you do it in your daily life more often than you think! Our goal is to harness that natural ability and translate it into a controlled ballet environment.
In this class, we focus on feeling the power in your legs and understanding how momentum is generated from your core. Rather than worrying about the perfect height of your passé or the exact placement of your fingers, we encourage you to explore what happens when you simply pick up a leg and let your body rotate. By staying on one spot and practicing these basic turning drills, you will build the spatial awareness necessary for more advanced work. This approach helps eliminate the fear of falling over, allowing you to find your center in a relaxed and playful way.
We emphasize relaxation throughout the session because tension is the enemy of a successful turn. When you are relaxed, your body can respond more naturally to the shifts in balance. By practicing these simple mechanics first, you create a strong foundation. Later, when we begin to integrate formal ballet technique, you will find that the movements feel much more intuitive. Join us at Broche Ballet to rediscover the joy of spinning. Whether you are at the barre or in the middle of your living room, these drills will help you feel more stable, powerful, and confident in your turning abilities.
