About This Video
Welcome to a comprehensive 27-minute advanced center practice designed to push your technical boundaries and refine your artistic expression. At Broche Ballet, we believe that advanced training requires a deep dive into the nuances of placement, and this class delivers exactly that. We begin with a "tricky" tendu exercise in the center. Unlike a standard barre warm-up, this sequence challenges your weight transfer and foot articulation right from the start, requiring a strong sense of grounding and mental focus to maintain your turnout and alignment without the support of the barre.
The centerpiece of this session is an expansive adagio. You will work through a series of exercises featuring multiple promenades. A promenade requires immense core strength and a precise understanding of your vertical axis; here, you will practice rotating slowly while maintaining a beautiful arabesque or devant line. The instructor guides you through the complexities of the développé, ensuring that every extension is supported by proper turnout and a lifted torso. This is an excellent opportunity to find your "quiet" strength—the ability to remain calm and controlled during the most physically demanding sustained movements.
As we transition into pirouettes, the focus shifts to the mechanics of the turn. You will practice finding a clean relevé and a sharp passé to ensure successful rotations. The class covers various entries, including tombé and chassé, teaching you how to use your floor pressure to generate power without losing alignment. Detailed guidance helps you troubleshoot common issues with spotting and arm placement during complex turns.
Finally, the class culminates in a light waltz and allegro. This portion of the class is about "transformation"—letting go of the clinical focus on technique to embrace the joy of movement. You will learn to navigate the triple meter of the waltz with grace, integrating jumps and leaps with soft, controlled pliés. By the end of this session, you will have a better grasp of how to transition smoothly between different dance styles, maintaining a steady tempo while infusing your movement with musicality and breath.
