About This Video
Welcome to this intensive Advanced Ballet Center class at Broche Ballet, where we push the boundaries of technical precision and artistic expression. In this session, we move beyond the basic mechanics of movement to explore the sophisticated relationship between momentum and control. Our primary focus is two-fold: achieving the perfect pitch in a penché and mastering the explosive yet controlled energy required for fouetté turns.
Mastering the fouetté requires more than just leg strength; it requires an understanding of how to generate momentum from a position of stillness. Many dancers struggle with turns because they rely on pre-existing speed. In this class, we break down the mechanics of the whip-like motion, focusing on the coordination between the working leg's opening and the sharp closing into passé.
By identifying those open moments in the music and the movement, you will learn to create a sudden burst of speed that carries you through multiple rotations while maintaining a vertical axis on relevé. Equally important is the development of control in extended positions. We delve into the complexities of the penché, focusing on the counter-balance between the upper body and the working leg in arabesque.
You will learn how to use your standing leg's plié and relevé to anchor the movement, ensuring that the descent and ascent are fluid and controlled rather than rushed. We also work on chassé and balancé combinations to improve your weight placement and transitions. Throughout this class, the instructor provides detailed feedback on body alignment and the timing of your whip technique.
We emphasize the importance of a strong core and precise arm placement to serve as the stable frame for your dynamic lower body movements. This session is a challenge for both the mind and the body, requiring you to think critically about the physics of dance while executing high-level combinations.
