About This Video
Welcome to a unique training session at Broche Ballet where we blend rigorous technique with the soul of performance. In this Artistry Barre class, we move beyond simple repetitions and dive into longer combinations designed to challenge your focus, memory, and artistic range. This session is particularly special because of its focus on the relationship between the dancer and the music. You will work with intense, fast-paced piano accompaniment that demands a high level of physical energy and internal vibration.
One of the highlights of this practice is the tango-inspired fondu. The fondu, meaning "to melt," requires a balance of strength and controlled softness. By adding a tango influence, we invite you to explore a sharper, more dramatic quality of movement while maintaining the technical integrity of the supporting leg. This juxtaposition is essential for developing the versatility required in advanced ballet repertoire. You will feel the fire of the music as you execute deep plié movements and sharp extensions.
Throughout the class, we emphasize the expressive power of port de bras. More than just arm positions, port de bras serves as the breath of ballet. You will learn to use reverse port de bras during the adagio section to create variety and depth in your dancing. We also focus on the temps lié, a vital movement used to connect one position to another smoothly. These transitions are where true artistry lives, turning a series of individual steps into a cohesive, fluid dance.
We will also work through traditional exercises including plié, tendu, and sous-sus, but with an added layer of complexity in the phrasing. The instructor guides you through front and side stretches, ensuring that your body is open and ready for the expressive adagio work that follows. By the time we reach the final port de bras, you will have a deeper understanding of how to match the intensity of the piano and deliver a performance that is both technically sound and artistically compelling.
