About This Video
Transitioning from the barre to the center is one of the most exciting and challenging phases of dance training. In this Broche Ballet session, Beginner Ballet Center, we focus on the essential skills required to move through space with grace and control. This 26-minute practice is designed specifically for students who have a grasp of basic barre work and are ready to test their balance and coordination on the open floor.
The class begins with center-based foundations, including pliés, tendus, and dégagés. Without the support of the barre, these movements require a heightened awareness of core engagement and proper weight distribution. We place a heavy emphasis on maintaining turnout and alignment throughout these exercises to ensure a solid foundation for more dynamic movements.
A major highlight of this lesson is the introduction and refinement of turning techniques. You will learn the mechanics of the piqué turn, one of the most fundamental turns in the ballet repertoire. The instructor breaks down the piqué action and the necessary sous-sus position to help you achieve a clean, stable rotation.
To support your progress, we dive deep into the art of spotting. By learning to identify a specific point in the room to focus your gaze—often looking for the front of the room to determine direction—you will gain the ability to stay oriented, maintain balance, and execute rotations with confidence. As we progress, we explore waltz-inspired combinations that incorporate ronds de jambe and Big A turns.
These sequences are designed to improve your movement quality and port de bras, ensuring that your upper body remains fluid and expressive even as your footwork becomes more complex. We conclude the session with a traditional bow and final poses, reinforcing the discipline and artistry of a professional classroom environment. Join us at Broche Ballet to refine your technique and bring your center work to the next level.
