About This Video
Welcome to your center practice at Broche Ballet. In this 18-minute session, we transition away from the barre to focus on balance, coordination, and the fluidity of movement. Center work is the heart of ballet, where you learn to carry your own weight and express yourself through space.
We begin with an elegant port de bras, focusing on the precise positioning of the arms and the timing of the head and eyes. Developing a strong port de bras is essential for maintaining your center and adding grace to every step. We then move into tendu and fondu exercises.
In ballet, a fondu is a 'melting' action on one leg. We emphasize the coordination between the arms and the legs, ensuring that the movement is smooth and controlled. A major focus of this class is the pas de bourrée.
This fundamental transitional step often poses a challenge for beginners. We break down the mechanics—picking up the leg into a coupé, moving through sous-sus, and finishing in a clean plié. You will also practice the pas de cheval, or 'step of the horse,' which develops articulation in the feet and ankles.
To wrap up our practice, we execute a traditional révérence. This formal bow or curtsy, performed from a B+ position, is more than just a polite gesture; it is a moment to acknowledge your hard work and the tradition of the art form. Throughout the class, Broche Ballet instructions provide encouraging feedback to help you refine your posture, alignment, and musicality.
Whether you are practicing in a studio or at home, this session will build the confidence you need to dance beautifully in the center.
