About This Video
Elevate your intermediate pointe work with this comprehensive 46-minute class from Broche Ballet. Designed for dancers who have established a solid foundation en pointe, this session bridges the gap between basic stability and advanced coordination. We begin at the barre with a focused two-handed warm-up, specifically targeting ankle mobility and arch strength to ensure your feet are fully prepared for the demands of center work.
As we transition to one-handed barre exercises, including tendu, sissonne, and adagio, the focus shifts toward maintaining rotation throughout every transition. A common challenge for intermediate dancers is losing turnout while lowering from pointe or demi-pointe; here, we emphasize driving through the heels to keep the hips open and the legs engaged. You will also practice 'scooping' your feet into a susu, pulling them together efficiently to maintain a tight fifth position and a strong vertical axis.
The heart of this session lies in the center floor combinations. We explore the delicate art of head coordination and port de bras, emphasizing how the scale of your head movement should mirror the size and speed of your steps. Small, intricate footwork requires subtle head changes, while larger movements allow for more expansive port de bras.
Dancers will practice specialized 'walkies' featuring piqué ballonné and dive deep into the technical preparations for both en dehors and en dedans pirouettes. Technical precision is at the forefront of every combination. You will learn to 'ride the back of the box' during roll-downs—a vital skill for smooth transitions and longevity in your pointe shoes.
We also focus on ensuring your weight is perfectly stacked over your supporting foot during piqué movements to find effortless balance and stability. By utilizing the allongé port de bras, you will learn to create a sense of breath and floating artistry even in the most challenging transitions. Join us at Broche Ballet to refine your technique and bring a professional polish to your center work.
