About This Video
Welcome to a focused technical session at Broche Ballet designed to bridge the gap between beginner fundamentals and intermediate mastery en pointe. In this 18-minute practice, we dive deep into the mechanics of precision, focusing on the subtle technical details that create stability and grace. This class is ideal for dancers looking to move beyond the initial stages of pointe work and into more complex, controlled movements at the barre.
A primary focus of this class is the concept of "scooping." When executing movements like an échappé into fourth position or pulling into a tight sous-sus, the way you engage your toes and feet determines your balance. By learning to scoop the toe under, you ensure that your weight is correctly centered over the platform of your pointe shoes, preventing the instability that often occurs during quick transitions. This technique is particularly vital when moving into an échappé to fourth position, where the back foot must scoop behind to create a stable, spacious base with a sous-sus feel.
We also spend significant time on the piqué arabesque. Entering a piqué requires confidence, a strong standing leg, and a centered core. We break down the movement from the initial angle to the lift into arabesque, followed by a controlled transition through passé. One of the most common challenges for students is the landing; here, we emphasize the use of a deep, controlled demi-plié to soften the descent and maintain alignment. By slowing down these transitions and focusing on the path of the foot, you develop the muscular memory and strength needed for advanced center work.
Throughout the session, we utilize tendu, soutenu, and repetitive plié exercises to build the necessary endurance for sustained pointe work. Whether you are refining your piqué or perfecting your échappé, this class provides the professional guidance and encouragement needed to advance your technique with precision.
