About This Video
Welcome to the first installment of our transformative six-week choreography series at Broche Ballet. This 30-minute session is specifically designed to bridge the gap between technical execution and artistic expression. If you have ever felt like you are simply "doing steps" rather than dancing, this class will provide the tools needed to demystify the choreographic process and unlock your inner artist.
In "Artistry in Center," we dive deep into the fundamental elements that make ballet movement compelling. We begin by exploring the concepts of rhythm and levels. You will learn how to use plié and relevé not just as technical requirements, but as dynamic tools to add texture and height to your dancing.
A major focus of this session is the challenge of decoupling: learning to maintain a soft, ethereal port de bras and a calm facial expression even while the legs are engaged in complex petite allegro or rapid footwork. Musicality is the heartbeat of choreography. We move through a variety of musical styles, including the playful syncopation of jazz swing and the grand finales of classical scores.
You will practice identifying different phrasing within the music and learn how to adapt your movement—such as a chassé or a balancé—to match the emotional intent of the track. We also cover the technical nuances of weight transfer in a temps lié and the precision required for a stable piqué or passé. By the end of this class, you will have a better understanding of how to use your body to tell a story.
Whether you are performing a simple chassé or a complex sequence, you will learn to commit to the movement and use your posture to project confidence and grace. Join us at Broche Ballet as we transition from rote memorization to creative, expressive ballet creation.
