About This Video
Welcome to a unique training experience at Broche Ballet where we transform technical repetition into performance art. In this 41-minute class, we dive deep into the artistry that defines a dancer, focusing on the 'why' behind every movement. Often, the barre is viewed as a place for clinical execution, but here we challenge you to feel like a performer from the very first demi-plié. We believe that technique is the foundation, but artistry is the soul of ballet, and this session is designed to bridge that gap.
One of the unique highlights of this session is our experimental approach to tendu and fondu. By utilizing slow, lyrical music usually reserved for fondu work, we invite you to find a 'gooey' resistance in your feet. This creates a tactile connection to the floor, ensuring that every brush and closure is intentional and grounded. You will learn how to use your muscles to resist the air around you, making your transitions appear effortless yet powerful.
We also place a heavy emphasis on port de bras. Rather than simply placing the arms in static positions, you will learn to move through space with resistance, pulling through the air to create a more dynamic stage presence. This intentionality extends to complex adagio sequences involving ballotté, rond de jambe en cloche, and temps lié. By maintaining muscle tone through the upper body, you support your technical alignment while enhancing your artistic expression.
Finally, the class challenges your cognitive connection to the music. Through unexpected choreography patterns in piqué combinations and rhythmic adagio phrasing, you are forced to stay present with the score. This focus ensures that you aren't just following a count, but truly interpreting the music. Whether you are working on a precise développé or a stable sous-sus, this class will help you rediscover the beauty of the barre.
