About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s intermediate center series. In this 28-minute session, we dive deep into the technical nuances of complex sequences, specifically focusing on the Piqué Fouetté and the lyrical Waltz. This class is designed to help you move past static positions and find the life in your movement through rotational mechanics and core initiation.
We begin with center Tendus that challenge your shifting rhythms, preparing the feet and brain for the faster work ahead. A major focus of this class is the Piqué Fouetté. Unlike a basic turn, the fouetté action requires a specific 'flick' of the body.
You will learn how to use your back and shoulders to initiate this rotation, ensuring your arms follow the torso's lead rather than pulling you off-balance. This coordination is essential for maintaining the integrity of the position while executing high-speed turns. We also explore the transition through Failli.
This movement is often misunderstood as just a step, but here we treat it as a powerful driver of momentum. By engaging the midsection, you’ll learn how to flow through Failli into Pas de bourrée or Arabesque with grace and power. Maintaining the line of your first Arabesque is paramount, and the instructor provides detailed cues on keeping the opposite shoulder forward to prevent the chest from dropping.
The second half of the class transitions into a lyrical Waltz combination. Featuring Balancé, Tombé, and Chassé, this sequence focuses on the coordination between your Port de bras and your lower body. You will practice using a petite Développé or Dégagé to enter the waltz, creating a seamless transition into traveling movements.
Finally, we apply the speed and force developed in our piqué work to improve the stability and speed of center Pirouettes. Whether you are practicing in a home studio or a professional space, this Broche Ballet class provides the technical breakdown needed to master these intermediate milestones. Finish the session with a traditional Révérence to center yourself and celebrate your progress.
