About This Video
At Broche Ballet, we believe that dance is as much a mental exercise as it is a physical one. This focused 8-minute practice session is designed to sharpen your cognitive skills by teaching you how to master the art of reversing a combination. Reversing sequences is a fundamental skill for any advancing dancer, requiring you to not only memorize movement but to understand the spatial and logical relationships between steps.
In this lesson, you will start by learning a foundational tendu combination on the right side. We begin with a series of tendus to the front, followed by a sharp piqué and a controlled fondu. You will then transition into a pas de bourrée and a chassé into a temps lié. Once you have the muscle memory for the en dehors version, the real challenge begins: reversing the logic for the en dedans version. You will work on starting to the back, utilizing coupé and pas de cheval to flip the orientation of the sequence.
The instructor guides you through this mental puzzle, encouraging you to figure out the reverse patterns yourself before demonstrating the correct execution. This approach fosters independence and deepens your understanding of ballet theory. You will explore movements such as the rond de jambe and various footwork patterns that require precise weight placement and quick thinking. By the end of this session, you will feel more confident in your ability to pick up choreography quickly and adapt to complex instructions at the barre. Whether you are practicing in a small home space or a studio, this exercise is an excellent way to keep your brain and body in perfect sync.
