About This Video
Transitioning from the barre to the center of the room is one of the most exciting and challenging milestones for any new dancer. In this 23-minute practice session, Broche Ballet helps you find your balance and build confidence away from the support of the barre. This Absolute Beginner Ballet class focuses on foundational movements that form the building blocks of classical choreography.
We begin by exploring the temps lié, a movement essential for learning how to transfer weight smoothly from one foot to another. You will learn how to maintain your turnout and posture while shifting through second or fourth position. This skill is critical for developing the fluid, lyrical quality seen in professional dancers.
The class then dives into the mechanics of the tombé and pas de bourrée. The tombé, or 'falling' step, teaches you how to use floor pressure to push off and transition into the next movement. We pair this with the pas de bourrée, focusing on the precise cou-de-pied position and the rhythmic pattern of the feet.
Maintaining a straight back leg in your arabesque and tombé is a key focus here, as we emphasize length and line over height. As we progress, we introduce the piqué turn. For absolute beginners, the goal is to understand the 'stepping' action and the preparation required to turn.
We break down the coordination of the arms and the importance of a strong dégagé to initiate the movement. You will also practice the balancé, a swaying step that challenges your coordination and sense of musicality. Finally, we work on the soutenu and various pivot turns to improve your orientation in space.
Throughout the lesson, our instructor provides detailed feedback on alignment, ensuring that your weight is correctly placed over your toes and your core is engaged. Whether you are practicing in a studio or at home, this session provides the structured environment you need to master complex center combinations.
