About This Video
Welcome to week two of our Absolute Beginner Ballet series at Broche Ballet. In this 24-minute session, we transition from the stability of the barre to the artistry of center work. Our primary focus is the piqué turn—a foundational movement that often feels daunting for beginners but becomes achievable when broken down into its core components.
The class begins by establishing a strong foundation through a series of exercises including the tendu and fondu. We emphasize the fondu as the melting action that provides the necessary power and stability for your turns. You will learn how to coordinate your arm movements with your leg work to maintain balance and grace throughout the combination.
A significant portion of the lesson is dedicated to the rond de jambe. We focus on maintaining a consistent height throughout the movement to ensure a smooth entrance into the piqué. By avoiding common mistakes like leaning back or losing control during the rond de jambe, you will find that your piqué turns become much more predictable and fluid.
We also cover the sous-sus, teaching you how to finish your turns with precision and poise. Throughout the class, our instructor provides detailed feedback on body positioning and foot placement. We encourage you to practice these movements at the barre first if you feel hesitant, then bring that same control to the center of the room.
At Broche Ballet, we believe that every dancer can master complex steps with the right guidance. This class is designed to build your confidence, one step at a time. Whether you are following along for the first time or reviewing these mechanics to refine your technique, this session offers the tools you need to succeed in your ballet journey.
