About This Video
Welcome to a challenging and rewarding advanced center session here at Broche Ballet. In this class, we transition away from the barre to focus on the strength, coordination, and artistry required for high-level center work. Our primary objective is to refine the mechanics of the pirouette, specifically focusing on the power generated from the upper body rather than just the legs.
Many dancers struggle with turns because they rely too heavily on the lower body for force. In this lesson, we break down the pirouette preparation, emphasizing how to use the shoulders—specifically the opposition of the left and right shoulder—to initiate a clean, controlled rotation. By stepping into a deep plié in quatrième and finding a solid relevé, you will learn to harness momentum without sacrificing alignment.
Beyond turns, we explore the fluid connection of port de bras. A beautiful upper body is what separates a technician from an artist. We will practice integrating tombé, chassé, and balancé into sequences that require a smooth, continuous flow of the arms.
The instructor provides detailed feedback on maintaining a lengthened arabesque and ensuring that every rond de jambe in the center is executed with precision and turn-out. As we progress through the class, you will work on the transition between movements, focusing on weight placement and the subtle shifts required to stay on balance. This video is designed for the dancer looking to push past their plateaus and find more stability in their center practice.
We conclude our practice with traditional ballet etiquette, performing a final bow or révérence to honor the art form. Join us at Broche Ballet as we build muscle memory through dedicated repetition and professional technical focus.
