About This Video
In this 40-minute advanced class at Broche Ballet, we transition away from the support of the barre to challenge your stability and technical precision in the center. This "barre without the barre" format is essential for developing the core strength and internal balance required for professional-level performance. We place a significant focus on the execution of the grand plié in the center, ensuring that your weight distribution and posture remain impeccable without external assistance.
Throughout the session, you will dive deep into the mechanics of power and grace. We address common technical hurdles such as "noodling" and incorrect timing during complex transitions. A primary focus of the class is the grand battement technique.
You will learn how to drive the hip forward to counterbalance the head upon landing, a crucial technique for maintaining a vertical axis. We also explore the intricate timing of the cambré, specifically how the head and arms must coordinate to maintain fluid, seamless movement. Beyond grand movements, the class covers essential elements like fouetté, passé, and relevé.
You will receive specific corrections on hip alignment—ensuring the hip leads the battement and avoids lifting prematurely. We also emphasize the importance of the brush through a small fourth position to generate lift from the floor. By the end of this practice, you will have a better understanding of how to manage your center of gravity, making your transitions through positions like arabesque appear effortless.
Whether you are preparing for a performance or simply looking to refine your technical foundation, this session provides the rigorous training necessary for the advanced dancer.
