About This Video
Welcome to your advanced turning practice at Broche Ballet. In this 15-minute technical intensive, we dive deep into the mechanics of high-level rotation, specifically focusing on the precision required for fouetté turns and consistent pirouettes. Mastering turns is not just about the number of rotations you can complete, but about the control and stability you maintain from the initial preparation to the final landing.
We begin with specialized turning drills designed to challenge your muscle memory and spatial awareness. By practicing specific rotations, such as three-quarter turns, you will learn to manage your momentum more effectively and find your center with every rise. A key focus of this class is the fouetté en face. This movement requires immense strength in the abdominals and the supporting leg to ensure the working leg stays at the correct height without dropping. We will work on the transition from a plié into the relevé, ensuring your passé is sharp and your hips remain square throughout the movement.
Throughout the session, we emphasize the importance of engaging the inner thighs and quadriceps. When performing advanced turns, the temptation is to let the leg lose its line as fatigue sets in, but here we "fight" to hold that leg straight out in the devant or à la seconde positions. This discipline builds the foundation for more complex variations and helps prevent common issues like over-rotation or under-rotation during center work.
Precision in transitions, such as moving fluidly into a pas de bourrée after a turn, is what separates a student from a professional-level performer. Our instructor provides detailed guidance to help you refine your technique, ensuring every en face movement is crisp and intentional. Whether you are working toward a triple pirouette or perfecting your first set of fouettés, these drills provide the technical framework necessary for success. Join us at Broche Ballet to gain the confidence and control needed for your most challenging combinations.
