About This Video
Welcome to a foundational center practice designed to build confidence away from the barre. In this 17-minute session with Broche Ballet, we transition from the stability of the barre to the freedom of center work, focusing on developing essential balance, coordination, and spatial awareness. We begin with foundational balance exercises in first position, challenging your stability through arm movements and demi-pointe work. You will practice weight transfer during tendu sequences, incorporating a specialized flex-and-point technique to increase articulation and strength in the feet.
A highlight of this class is the themed 'Singing in the Rain' combination. This sequence serves as a practical application of transition steps and turns. You will learn the mechanics of the pas de bourrée, specifically how to swivel the heel to change directions smoothly between first and fifth positions. We also break down the mechanics of soutenu and detourné turns. A key focus here is using arm momentum to drive the turn while maintaining a clean coup-de-pied position. To help you stay oriented in space, we discuss the importance of using room landmarks to guide your movements and avoid dizziness.
As we progress, we integrate fluid port de bras with leg movements such as fondu and demi-plié to enhance your classical styling. These exercises are designed to help you coordinate your upper and lower body, a vital skill for any advancing dancer. The class concludes with a focused port de bras and a traditional reverence, offering a comprehensive and encouraging introduction to classical center practice. Whether you are practicing in a studio or your living room, this class provides the technical building blocks necessary for more complex choreography.
