About This Video
Welcome to your journey into the world of petite allegro. In this instructional session from Broche Ballet, we focus on the fundamental building blocks of jumping technique. Allegro, which translates to "brisk" or "lively," is the heart of classical dance, requiring a blend of strength, precision, and musicality.
Whether you are practicing in a studio or a home setting, mastering these small jumps is essential for developing the stamina and coordination needed for more advanced choreography. We begin by breaking down individual movements to ensure proper alignment and power. You will refine your glissade, focusing on the "gliding" quality and the essential plié that initiates and finishes the move.
From there, we transition into the assemblé, where the legs come together in the air to land simultaneously in fifth position. The class also covers the changement, a sharp and rhythmic jump where the feet switch positions mid-air, and the jeté, a brush and leap that emphasizes the "thrown" quality of the movement. " Often, beginners find it easy to perform one jump in isolation but struggle when they are linked.
We guide you through specific combinations, gradually increasing the complexity and introducing changes in direction. We also incorporate a challenge sequence to test your memory and coordination. By repeating these sequences on both the right and left sides, you will build balanced muscle memory and spatial awareness.
At Broche Ballet, we believe that a strong foundation in petite allegro is the key to effortless movement. Join us as we explore these dynamic steps and help you find your "ballon"—the light, bouncy quality that makes ballet look so effortless. Prepare to elevate your dance practice with these essential jumping techniques and choreographed combinations.
