About This Video
Welcome to Week 5 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe 16-week program. This week, we transition into one of the most critical aspects of pointe work: controlling the descent from a single leg. Mastering the roll down is not just about strength; it is about the coordination between your foot, your core, and the mechanics of your pointe shoe.
In this class, we dive deep into the technique of hardening the foot before it even touches the floor. This stability is essential for maintaining alignment and preventing injuries. You will learn how to minimize the time spent in unstable positions by coordinating the movement of one leg with the active pick up of the other.
We utilize a specific combination of sous-sus, plié, and controlled lowering to build the muscle memory required for seamless weight transfers. A significant focus of today's practice is learning how to push down through the box of the shoe. Many beginners struggle with the feeling of falling off their shoes; instead, we teach you how to actively control the descent.
This ensures that every movement en pointe is intentional and graceful. Beyond the technical work at the barre, we also address the physical demands of pointe. We include targeted stretches for the calves and the Achilles tendon to ensure your joints remain supple.
Remember, progress en pointe is a marathon, not a sprint. Take your time to feel each movement and build the necessary strength over these sixteen weeks. Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and build your confidence.
