About This Video
Welcome to Class #5 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Summer Cohort. In this session, we transition from foundational rises to more complex articulations that build the necessary strength for center work. Our primary focus is on the single leg roll-down, an essential exercise for developing the intrinsic muscles of the foot.
By slowing down the descent from en pointe to the floor, you will learn to control every millimeter of movement, ensuring your ankles remain stable and your alignment stays true. We also introduce the next progression for sous-sous, focusing on the 'zip' of the legs and finding your vertical axis. This class moves into a challenging adagio combination designed specifically for single-leg stamina.
Using the barre for support, you will practice sustained positions and slow, controlled movements that mimic the luxury of professional adagio work. Throughout the lesson, we emphasize the unique mechanics of the pointe shoe, including how to articulate the foot within the shank and the specific toe shape required for a secure platform. Whether you are working in your first pair of pointe shoes or are a student looking to refine your transitions from flat to en pointe, this class provides the technical breakdown needed for success.
We will discuss the importance of calf and arch engagement, ensuring that every movement is supported by proper technique rather than just the structure of the shoe. Join us as we build the strength, grace, and confidence required to master adagio work en pointe.
