About This Video
Welcome to this all-level center class at Broche Ballet, designed to help you transition from the barre to the middle of the floor with grace and confidence. This session focuses on the essential elements of center work, including tendu with expressive port de bras, a controlled adagio, and a dynamic waltz sequence featuring en dedans pirouettes. One of the primary focuses of this class is finding and maintaining your vertical axis.
When preparing for a turn, your alignment is crucial. We will practice positioning the face directly over the standing foot, ensuring the hips are tucked neatly underneath to create a solid, long axis for rotation. This structural awareness is what allows for a successful relevé and a controlled finish.
We also explore the swimming quality of movement. In transitions like the failli and pas de basque, it is easy to become stiff or small in the body. Instead, we encourage a sense of breadth, initiating movement from the shoulders with the hands following naturally.
This approach not only adds artistry to your port de bras but also helps generate the necessary momentum for steps like the tombé. Throughout the practice, we emphasize the importance of confidence. Whether you are holding a steady arabesque or pushing through a sequence of pas de basque, your intention drives the movement.
In the tendu segment, focus on the articulation of the foot while coordinating the upper body. The adagio portion challenges your balance and stamina, requiring sustained control in every extension. As we move into the waltz, you will learn to use your plié to power into your en dedans turns, keeping your gaze steady and your arms in harmony.
We conclude the class with a formal révérence, or bow, teaching you the proper etiquette to thank your instructor and the orchestra. Join us at Broche Ballet to refine these skills and bring a professional polish to your center practice.
