About This Video
Welcome to an intensive technical session at Broche Ballet, where we return to the core of classical dance. This 26-minute class is meticulously designed to help dancers refine their foundational movements: the plié, the tendu, and the relevé. By focusing on these three pillars, you will build the strength and muscle memory required for more advanced choreography and center work.
Our session begins at the barre with a series of plié combinations across first, second, fourth, and fifth positions. We emphasize the depth of the demi-plié and the controlled descent of the grand plié, ensuring that turnout is initiated correctly from the hips while alignment remains vertical. To add a layer of artistry, we integrate cambré and port de bras, teaching the body to move as a cohesive unit where the breath supports the movement.
As we transition into tendu exercises, the focus shifts toward foot articulation and floor resistance. You will practice brushing the floor to fully engage the muscles of the foot, moving through the metatarsals to a crisp point. The inclusion of pas de cheval and enveloppé introduces a rhythmic challenge, requiring dancers to maintain speed without sacrificing the quality of the line.
We also utilize the fondu—the melting action—to bridge movements, ensuring a soft but powerful transition. The class concludes with a specialized two-minute relevé drill. This segment is specifically designed to build the ankle stability and lower-leg strength necessary for sustained balance and future pointe work.
By focusing on the alignment of the ankle over the toes during the relevé, you will develop the necessary power for jumps and turns. Whether you are preparing for the 'Waltz of the Hours' or simply looking to polish your daily technique, this class provides the technical rigor needed to excel.
