About This Video
Elevate your technique with this focused 23-minute barre practice from Broche Ballet. In this session, we return to the essential foundations of classical dance: the plié, the tendu, and the relevé. While these movements are introduced in the very first ballet class, mastering them requires a lifelong commitment to precision and mindful execution.
This video is designed for dancers who want to move beyond just performing the steps and instead focus on how they are performed to achieve greater grace and stability. Our practice begins with a deep dive into plié and grand plié technique. We emphasize the importance of hip alignment, ensuring your weight remains centered over your heels to protect the joints and maintain a solid base.
Integrated port de bras helps coordinate the upper body, preventing a rigid torso while your legs do the work. From there, we transition into tendu sequences that challenge your foot articulation. You will learn the peeling method, where the foot leaves the floor one joint at a time, a technique that is vital for developing the strength needed for demi-pointe and eventually pointe work.
Coordination takes center stage as we incorporate enveloppé and en cloche movements, requiring a still torso and active turnout. We also focus on weight shifts and maintaining a tucked pelvis to ensure seamless transitions during chasse sequences. To round out the session, we move into balance and strength work.
You will practice sustained balances in susu and arabesque, building the core stability necessary for center work. We conclude with a demanding series of relevés in first position and on a single leg, specifically targeted at strengthening the ankles and calves. Whether you are an intermediate dancer looking to polish your skills or an advanced student seeking a rigorous foundational tune-up, this Broche Ballet session provides the technical breakdown necessary to take your dancing to the next level.
