About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s foundational pointe class, specifically designed to help dancers bridge the gap between beginner and intermediate levels. Mastering pointe work requires more than just standing on your toes; it demands a deep understanding of foot mechanics, core engagement, and precise weight placement. In this 28-minute session, we focus on the essential 'Pointe Basics' that provide the stability and confidence needed for center work. We begin at the barre to establish correct alignment before moving to the center to challenge your balance.
Throughout this lesson, we dive deep into specific exercises including battement tendu, relevé, and coup-de-pied. A primary focus is the role of the toes inside the shoe. You will learn why keeping the toes strong and engaged—even when bending the ankles or knees—is vital for safety and aesthetics. We address common technical hurdles, such as ensuring your toes touch the bottom of your shoes at all times and using the toes to actively push off the floor into movements like sous-sus and piqué.
The class also covers the intricacies of the pas de bourrée. You will learn how to maintain a high head position and proud posture, avoiding the common mistake of 'crouching' during quick footwork. By focusing on shifting weight effectively and lifting the heel off the floor before transferring weight in coup-de-pied movements, you will develop the fluidity required for more advanced choreography. Whether you are refining your technique or preparing for more complex center combinations, this class offers the corrections and feedback necessary to elevate your practice. Join Broche Ballet as we refine your pointe technique, one relevé at a time.
