About This Video
In this 25-minute follow-along class from Broche Ballet, we step away from the stress of memorizing complex sequences to focus on what truly matters: your technique. This beginner-level barre session is designed for students who want to refine their alignment, understand the mechanics of their bodies, and build a strong foundation for more advanced movements. Our instructor leads you through a series of exercises that emphasize the why behind the how.
We start by addressing common pitfalls at the barre, specifically focusing on the alignment of the barre shoulder and the positioning of the port de bras elbow. Maintaining a relaxed, stable shoulder is essential for achieving the graceful lines that define classical ballet. A significant portion of the class is dedicated to mastering the attitude position and coupé.
You will learn how to maintain equidistant angles between your knees, ensuring your turnout comes from the hip rather than the knee joint. We use the helpful visualization of having a conversation between the insides of your knees to help you find the correct engagement of the inner thighs and proper femur rotation. By keeping the movement centered in the hip socket, you will develop the strength and control needed for fluid, stable transitions.
Throughout the session, we also explore the importance of breath and relaxation. Tension is often the enemy of proper technique, and by focusing on deep breathing, you can find a more organic, supported way of moving. Whether you are working on a melting fondu or a precise coupé, these fundamental principles will elevate your daily practice.
