About This Video
Welcome to this foundational Technique Barre class at Broche Ballet, designed specifically for dancers who want to slow down and perfect the mechanics of their movement. In this 25-minute follow-along practice, we dive deep into the essential elements that build a strong ballet foundation. Whether you are a beginner starting your journey or an experienced dancer looking to refine your alignment, this session provides the space and time needed to feel every specific muscle engagement.
The class begins with exercises in parallel, first, and fifth positions, emphasizing the importance of posture from the feet up. You will focus on fundamental movements such as pliés and relevés, ensuring your weight remains centered over the balls of the feet and your arches are properly supported. A key focus of this session is the concept of "squeezing"—learning how to engage the upper legs and glutes to maintain stability and turnout.
We emphasize keeping the back hip forward and the chest wide, creating that long, elegant ballet line while building functional core strength. As the barre progresses, we move into more complex coordination with fondu and rond de jambe exercises. Here, you will practice the "melt" of the fondu while keeping the supporting leg strong and the working quad engaged to maximize turnout.
We also incorporate flex and pointe exercises to increase foot articulation and ankle strength. The instructor provides constant cues on wrapping the heel under and maintaining a high head position, helping you internalize the habits of professional technique. By focusing on these deliberate, controlled movements, you develop the muscle memory necessary for more advanced turns and center work.
Slow practice is the secret to high-level technique, as it allows you to correct misalignments before they become habits. This practice isn't just about doing the steps; it's about understanding the "why" behind every position. Join us at the barre and refine your technique with Broche Ballet's expert guidance.
