About This Video
Welcome to a deep dive into ballet mechanics at Broche Ballet. This 52-minute Technique Barre class is designed for dancers who want to move beyond the "what" of a step and master the precise "how" of movement. By slowing down our combinations, we create the mental space necessary to focus on exact alignment, proper muscle engagement, and the subtle nuances that transform your dancing.
We begin the session with a strong focus on pelvic stability. The instructor introduces the vital concept of keeping the "front of the hips high and the back of the hips low" to stabilize the pelvis and prevent anterior tilting during difficult transitions. This foundational postural work carries through our slow pliés and grand pliés, ensuring that every movement is supported by a stable core.
During our cambré and piqué exercises, we maintain this pelvic integrity to protect the lower back while finding greater expressive range. As we progress through tendus and ronds de jambe, we emphasize intricate foot articulation and the "top of the toe" position, preparing the feet for the demands of advanced work. A unique and significant portion of this class is dedicated to foot and toe mechanics.
Utilizing "trampoline" bouncers on relevé, you will learn how to tuck the toes under the foot to build arch strength and refine your take-off for jumps. This detailed work is essential for developing the power and grace required for allegro. Moving into more complex movements, we analyze the frappé with a focus on the knee hinge and femur stability.
By isolating the movement of the lower leg from the cou-de-pied position while keeping the quad and hamstring actively engaged, you will achieve a much sharper, more rhythmic strike. Finally, we tackle adagio work, where we practice fondu and developpé with the focus on lifting up and forward from the hip to improve extensions without compromising the standing leg. This session is designed for dancers seeking to integrate concepts from previous technique series into a cohesive, detailed barre practice.
