About This Video
Celebrate the holiday season with a purposeful and festive 29-minute session at Broche Ballet. Our Thanksgiving Day Pliés, Tendus & Rélevés class is meticulously crafted to help you maintain your technical foundation while embracing a spirit of gratitude and community. This session is not just a holiday workout; it is a comprehensive technical study of the core movements that define a dancer’s strength and grace.
The class begins with a series of pliés in first, fourth, and fifth positions. These foundational exercises are essential for warming up the legs, establishing proper turnout from the hips, and finding your center of gravity early in the practice. Following this, we transition into tendu combinations that challenge your musicality and weight transfer.
By incorporating pas de cheval and ton lié, we focus on the articulation of the feet and the smooth shifting of weight between positions—skills that are vital for both barre and center work. A unique highlight of this holiday class is the 40 relevé challenge. This high-repetition sequence is specifically designed to build calf stamina and ankle stability.
Whether your goal is to excel in pointe work or to improve the power of your sauté, these relevés provide the necessary conditioning to take your dancing to the next level. We perform these to varied musical phrasings to keep your mind engaged along with your muscles. Artistry remains at the forefront of our practice.
Using expressive melodies like the Cupid variation from Don Quixote, we focus on port de bras and cambré. These movements encourage dancers to find fluidity in the upper body and coordinate the head and eyes with the movement of the arms. Finally, we conclude with a heartfelt reverence.
This traditional ending allows us to find presence and express gratitude for our bodies and the global dance community. Join us at Broche Ballet for this uplifting holiday session.
