About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s Yummy Artistry Barre, a specialized 46-minute session designed to help you transition from simply performing steps to truly dancing. This class is an invitation to explore the more expressive, luscious side of ballet, where every movement is infused with intention and breath. Whether you are looking to refine your stage presence or find more fluidity in your daily practice, this class offers the tools to elevate your artistry through slow, deliberate movement.
At the heart of this session is the concept of synchronized coordination. You will learn to connect your extremities using powerful imagery; imagine your middle finger is delicately tied to the elastics of your ballet shoe. This visualization ensures that your port de bras and footwork, whether in a slow tendu or a sharp dégagé, move in perfect harmony.
By grounding your technique in these physical connections, you create a seamless line that captivates the audience. Technical precision remains a priority, especially during challenging movements like recovery from a cambré. Rather than leading with the head or shoulders, which can disrupt the line and strain the neck, the instructor guides you to use the underside of your upper arm to pull the spine upward with grace and strength.
Additionally, we focus on maintaining armpit space, ensuring your arms remain securely attached to the movement of your back throughout every port de bras. Musicality is explored through the lens of breath-work. Much like a singer uses breath to phrase a melody, a dancer uses inhalations and exhalations to meter their movement.
This approach turns a standard exercise like a plié or grand plié into a meditative experience. You will also explore wilt and bloom transitions—a technique used to add texture and life to your movements, particularly in fondu and développé. Join us at Broche Ballet to discover how these subtle adjustments can transform your barre work into a true performance.
