About This Video
Welcome to the third installment of the Broche Ballet Absolute Beginner series. In this class, we transition from the stability of the barre to the dynamic world of center work. Our focus today is one of the most vital skills in a dancer's repertoire: the ability to move seamlessly from one leg to another.
Mastering weight transfer is the secret to achieving that effortless, floating quality seen in professional dancers. This 27-minute practice session breaks down the "connector steps" that form the backbone of classical choreography. You will learn to execute the tombé (a falling movement), the chassé (where one foot chases the other), and the temps lié (a connected movement of weight).
These aren't just transition steps; they are the essential building blocks you will use throughout your entire ballet career. Understanding how to transition through a proper plié while maintaining your turnout and alignment is crucial for both safety and aesthetic grace. Throughout the session, our instructor demonstrates three sets of combinations.
Each set highlights a different method of traveling, such as the pas de bourrée, allowing you to feel the nuances in rhythm and weight distribution. We place a heavy emphasis on foot articulation; even in the center, every movement should begin with a strong tendu or dégagé to ensure your feet are working correctly. To complement your physical practice, we provide a downloadable worksheet designed to help you visualize how these movements fit together.
By mapping out the steps like a tree diagram, you can better memorize the terminology and understand the logic behind balletic transitions. Whether you are a brand-new dancer or looking to polish your basic technique, this class offers the structured guidance needed to move with confidence. Join Broche Ballet as we explore the foundational paths of movement that will carry you through your dance journey.
