About This Video
Welcome to this Broche Ballet special edition Artistry Barre, a 37-minute immersive class designed for dancers who want to move beyond the technical mechanics of the barre and tap into their inner performer. While technical precision is the foundation of classical dance, artistry is what brings a performance to life. In this session, we focus specifically on how to use your breath, eyes, and port de bras to transform standard exercises into moments of genuine expression.
Throughout the class, we revisit fundamental movements like the plié and tendu, but with a renewed focus on the allongé and the fluid transitions between positions. By emphasizing the 'how' of the movement rather than just the 'what,' you will learn to bridge the gap between studio drills and stage performance. We dive deep into the fondu, using its inherent 'melting' quality to find greater elasticity in the legs and core.
This softness in the standing leg allows for a more expansive developpé and a more stable, expressive arabesque. You will also practice the sous-sus and sissonne, learning how to use the music's phrasing to dictate the height and timing of your jumps and rises. One of the highlights of this practice is the detailed work on port de bras.
The instructor guides you through the specific paths the arms take, ensuring they are always supported by the back and integrated with your breathing. This holistic approach ensures that your arms never look 'stuck,' but rather like a natural extension of your torso. Whether you are preparing for a performance or simply want to feel more like a dancer in your daily practice, this Artistry Barre provides the tools to help you find your individual voice.
By the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of how to use musicality and relaxation to improve your overall technique and confidence on the floor.
