About This Video
In this Broche Ballet center class, we step away from the barre to focus on the expressive power of Artistry in the Center. This 25-minute practice session is designed to help you feel like a performer, translating technical precision into a beautiful, choreographed routine set to Josu Gallastegui’s rendition of Bach’s Cantata No. 1.
The class begins with a brief introduction to the musicality and history of the piece, setting the stage for a session that values the marriage of classical music and movement. You will be guided through a series of exercises that include demi-plié, relevé, and chassé, all while maintaining the grace and poise required for center work. Our instructor provides detailed corrections to help you refine your technique, ensuring that every allongé and piqué is executed with intention.
One of the key focuses of this class is the concept of using the entire length of the song to create a cohesive dance. Rather than short, repetitive drills, we explore a longer combination that allows for greater artistic expression. You will learn the importance of timing and how to coordinate your port de bras with lower-body movements like the coupé and chassé.
As the music builds in intensity, so does the energy of the class. We place special emphasis on height changes—the dynamic shift between a deep plié and a high relevé—which adds professional polish to your dancing. We include two full runs-through of the choreography, with the second iteration featuring additional pliés to create a more dramatic ending.
This focus on height variation is a vital skill for any dancer looking to improve their presence on stage or in the studio. Conclude your practice with a graceful curtsy and an optional three-minute bonus session to perfect the sequence one last time. Join us at Broche Ballet to rediscover the joy of moving to beautiful classical music while sharpening your technical skills.
