About This Video
Step into the studio with Broche Ballet for a comprehensive beginner ballet class designed to refine your technique and deepen your understanding of classical positioning. This session features a 55-minute barre and a 20-minute center practice, providing a well-rounded approach to your daily training. Our primary focus in this lesson is the beautiful and complex position of écarté.
Unlike standard positions that face directly to the front or side, écarté requires a keen awareness of your body's diagonal relationship to the audience. You will learn the distinction between écarté devant (front) and écarté derrière (back), ensuring that your working leg is correctly placed whether you are facing toward or away from your audience's perspective. Julie guides you through the subtle shifts in weight and alignment needed to execute these movements with grace and stability.
The class begins at the barre, where we establish foundations through essential exercises like plié, relevé, and tendu. These repetitions build the necessary strength for the center work that follows. In the center, we integrate port de bras to enhance the fluidity of your movement.
You will practice how arm patterns and the use of allongé can transform a simple step into a story-telling gesture. Throughout the class, we emphasize the importance of proper posture. By focusing on your alignment during écarté and port de bras, you will develop the poise and stage presence characteristic of professional dancers.
By understanding the terminology and the mechanics behind every movement, you gain a professional edge in your practice. We dive deep into the definitions of these French terms, helping you internalize the language of dance as you move. This class is an excellent opportunity to focus on the 'why' behind the 'how,' ensuring that your technique is as mentally sharp as it is physically precise.
Join us at Broche Ballet to experience a supportive environment where your growth as a dancer is our priority.
