About This Video
Elevate your foundational technique with our Beginner Ballet Barre class at Broche Ballet. Led by Julie, this comprehensive 55-minute session is designed specifically for adult beginners and those looking to refine their grace and coordination. While many beginner classes focus heavily on footwork, this unique session places a special emphasis on the art of port de bras. You will learn not only how to move your arms with elegance but also techniques for memorizing sequences, ensuring your upper body looks as polished as your lower body.
The class begins at the barre, where we review fundamental ballet positions including first, second, third, and fifth positions. Julie guides you through essential exercises such as plié, tendu, rond de jambe, and développé, all while maintaining a strong focus on proper posture and alignment. By integrating port de bras into these exercises from the start, you will develop the coordination necessary for more advanced center work. We also introduce the concept of 'su-su' and the 'B-plus' (B plus) position, providing a well-rounded vocabulary for your dance journey.
Moving away from the barre, the session transitions into introductory center exercises. This is where you will put your balance to the test and find your own center in an open space. Practicing at home can be challenging, but Julie provides clear demonstrations and encouraging cues to help you navigate your space with confidence. The class concludes with a traditional reverence, teaching you the proper way to execute a curtsy or bow with dramatic expression and poise. Whether you are stepping onto the floor for the first time or returning after a long break, this class offers the supportive environment you need to flourish as a dancer.
