About This Video
Transitioning from the barre to the center of the floor is one of the most exciting steps in a dancer's journey. At Broche Ballet, we believe that center work is where your artistry truly begins to shine. This 18-minute Beginner Ballet Center class is designed to help you find your stability and grace away from the support of the barre, focusing on foundational movements like port de bras, balancé, and the intricate piqué soutenu.
The lesson begins by focusing on the upper body. You will explore port de bras and allongé, learning how to move your arms in a flowing, continuous motion that connects your steps. We emphasize head placement and gaze, ensuring that your upper body works in harmony with your legs.
By focusing on one arm at a time before integrating both, you will develop the coordination necessary for more advanced combinations. A key highlight of this session is mastering the piqué soutenu. This step requires quick rhythm and precise footwork as the working leg taps the floor.
To add a bit of sparkle and personality to your dancing, we introduce the flick—a small, quick movement of the foot that brings flair to your balances. You will practice the coordination required to transition from a piqué soutenu into a sustained balance, learning how to maintain your alignment while adding these detailed touches. Throughout the class, we explore various combinations that include plié, coupé, and dégagé transitions.
Whether you are performing a balancé or holding a steady balance on one leg, this class provides the guidance and feedback needed to execute each move with confidence. We conclude with a traditional révérence to honor the practice. This session is perfect for adult beginners who want to refine their technique and add a sense of fun and artistry to their ballet practice.
