About This Video
Finding your center is one of the most challenging yet rewarding milestones in a dancer’s journey. In this 22-minute guided session from Broche Ballet, we step away from the barre to focus on the essential skill of balance. Designed specifically for beginners, this class utilizes slow combinations to help you find your vertical alignment and build the core strength necessary for fluid movement.
We begin with foundational exercises like the plié and tendu in the center. Without the support of the barre, these movements require a heightened awareness of weight distribution. You will learn how to maintain a straight line from your head to your heels, ensuring your weight is properly placed over the balls of the feet.
This stability is crucial when transitioning into more complex steps like the dégagé and développé. One of the primary focuses of this class is the mechanics of weight transfer. Many dancers tend to lean back when stepping into movements like the pas de bourrée.
Our instructor provides detailed corrections to help you stay upright and centered. By treating every lift of the leg with focused control, you will gain the stability needed to pick up the foot without wobbling or falling off your standing leg. Proper arm placement and the use of port de bras are also covered to ensure your upper body supports your movements.
You will practice the cambré, learning how to bend without compromising your center. Additionally, we delve into the importance of breathing. Utilizing 'quarter breaths' allows you to maintain ribcage stability while providing the oxygen your muscles need to sustain long, slow combinations.
Whether you are practicing at home or in a studio, these balance techniques will not only improve your ballet technique but also enhance your posture in everyday life. Join us at Broche Ballet as we master the center, one stable step at a time.
