About This Video
Moving from the barre to the center is one of the most significant milestones for a beginner dancer. At Broche Ballet, we believe that confidence comes from a solid understanding of mechanics and alignment. This 43-minute class is specifically designed to help you bridge that gap using simpler combinations that allow you to focus on your internal stability rather than complex choreography. Throughout the session, we explore how to maintain the same level of control you feel at the barre while standing in the middle of the room.
A primary focus of this practice is the execution of grand battement in the center. Without the physical support of the barre, dancers often struggle with maintaining their posture. You will learn how to keep your back straight and your chest lifted to avoid 'crunching' into the hip or collapsing forward as the leg reaches its peak height. We delve into the physics of balance, teaching you how to keep your head precisely over your standing foot to prevent the weight of your working leg from pulling you off-center.
We also cover essential footwork and transitions including dégagé, tombé, and plié. By practicing these movements in the center, you will develop a stronger core and better proprioception. We also introduce refined positions such as passé and cou-de-pied, ensuring you understand how to switch legs quickly and efficiently without losing your alignment. This class is an excellent way to prepare for more advanced center work, including grand jeté and en dedans movements. Join us to find your center and dance with newfound independence.
