About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet's specialized practice session: the Beginner Ballet Center Barre. One of the most significant milestones for any adult dancer is the transition from the stability of the physical barre to the independence of center work. This class is meticulously designed to help you bridge that gap by teaching you how to find your internal support system.
By removing the barre, we challenge your core, your proprioception, and your understanding of classical alignment in a supportive, beginner-friendly environment. In this 39-minute class, we focus on foundational movements such as tendu, plié, and passé. The instructor provides detailed technical cues that go beyond just doing the steps.
For instance, you will learn the critical relationship between the femur and the pelvis. Many dancers struggle with falling forward or backward when lowering a leg from a height; we address this by teaching you how to release the hip flexor and let the leg lower naturally under its own weight. This specific focus on the descent of the leg—whether from a passé or a grand battement—is essential for developing the control required for adagio and allegro work later on.
We also incorporate movements like arabesque and sous-sus to test your verticality. By practicing relevé in the center, you'll learn to find your center and stay upright without the temptation to lean on a wooden rail. The class also introduces simple turning drills and footwork like pas de bourrée, emphasizing stay-on-balance techniques.
By the end of this session, you will feel more grounded and confident in your ability to hold your own in the center. At Broche Ballet, we believe that technique is the key to freedom of movement; this class provides the technical building blocks to help you move with grace and stability, regardless of where you are on the dance floor.
