About This Video
Transitioning from the physical support of the barre to the center of the room is one of the most rewarding milestones in a dancer’s journey. This Beginner Center Barre class at Broche Ballet is specifically designed to help you make that leap with confidence. By performing traditional barre exercises in the center, you will develop the foundational core stability and self-reliance required for more advanced combinations and choreography.
Throughout this 25-minute session, we explore essential movements including demi-plié, cambré, and tendu with a focus on foot articulation. Moving these exercises to the center forces the body to find its own axis, improving your overall weight distribution and balance. We also delve into rond de jambe and ton lié, practicing how to transfer weight seamlessly between legs while maintaining a square torso.
The instructor provides real-time feedback on ballet health, ensuring that your alignment remains safe and effective as you build strength. A major focus of this class is the refinement of port de bras. You will learn the classic rule of coordination: using the opposite arm for movements to the front and the same arm for movements to the back.
We practice this through dégagé, fondu, and développé sequences, ensuring your arms flow fluidly without compromising your center of gravity. Keeping the shoulders anchored to the hips is a key technical goal, especially as we work through fourth position transitions and passé. Whether you are a beginner looking to challenge your balance or a student wanting to revisit the basics of center work, this class offers a comprehensive workout for both the mind and body.
By the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of how to use your breath and core to sustain yourself without the need for external support. Join Broche Ballet and experience the freedom of dancing in the center.
