About This Video
Strengthening the core is essential for every dancer, from beginners to professionals. At Broche Ballet, we understand that a strong center is the foundation for effortless pirouettes, high extensions, and rock-solid balances. This 20-minute core-focused session is designed specifically to help you recruit the deep abdominal muscles and improve your overall stability without requiring weight-bearing on the upper body. This makes the routine ideal for dancers with wrist or shoulder sensitivity.
The routine centers on controlled movements like bicycles and toe taps performed from a tabletop position. While these might seem like standard fitness exercises, our focus is on the precision and stability required for ballet. You will learn how to maintain a flat low back against the floor and keep your ribs knit together—crucial skills for maintaining a vertical axis during a pirouette or a clean arabesque. By emphasizing the relationship between your breath and muscle recruitment, you will find it easier to keep your center engaged even during the most demanding floor work or barre exercises.
In addition to traditional abdominal work, we explore hollow body balances. These exercises challenge your endurance while teaching you how to stay connected through your center. The class concludes with a soothing cobra or sphinx stretch to counter-stretch the abdominals and ensure your spine stays mobile and healthy. This efficient workout can be done as a standalone session or as a powerful warm-up before your main ballet class. Consistent core training with Broche Ballet will lead to better alignment, more confident movement, and improved performance across all aspects of your dance practice. Take 20 minutes to invest in your technique and feel the difference in your next class.
