About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s "Gentle Exercises for a Great Day," a 36-minute ballet barre specifically designed to ground your practice while maintaining the highest technical standards. This session is uniquely structured to exclude relevés, making it an exceptional choice for dancers who are seeking a low-impact recovery day or those who wish to focus intensely on stability through the heels. By remaining flat on the floor, you are granted the opportunity to delve much deeper into the alignment of the hips, the strength of the core, and the fluidity of the upper body without the added challenge of balance on demi-pointe.
Our class begins with a deliberate series of pliés that incorporate side, forward, and back cambre. This emphasis on spinal mobility from the very start of the barre ensures that your body feels elongated and open. We then transition into tendu sequences that utilize flexed footwork; this technique is excellent for increasing ankle range of motion and emphasizing the lengthening of the leg.
As the class progresses, we explore dégagé en cloche movements to encourage healthy blood flow and rond de jambe with enveloppé to build functional strength within the hip socket. A major technical pillar of this barre is the maintenance of turnout and the subtle art of counter-rotation. During piqué and fondu combinations, you will be encouraged to find a "long, strong leg" while coordinating complex port de bras.
By learning to move the arms in opposition to the legs, you will naturally improve your coordination and internal sense of balance. We also focus heavily on graceful transitions, such as temps lié and pas de cheval, ensuring that every movement is fluid and interconnected. Whether you are working on the height of your arabesque or the control of your developpé, this class provides the necessary space to move with breath and lyrical intention.
