About This Video
Take your pointe work to the next level with this 43-minute intermediate class from Broche Ballet. This session is specifically designed for dancers who have mastered the basics of two-handed barre work and are ready to transition to more challenging one-handed support and center combinations. We begin at the barre with a focus on stability and strength, utilizing one hand for balance to mirror center work conditions and improve your overall placement.
The class starts with foundational exercises including tendu and dégagé front to warm up the feet and prepare the ankles for the demands of the session. A significant portion of the barre work is dedicated to single-leg relevé drills. These exercises are essential for building the calf and ankle strength required for more advanced turns and jumps.
By focusing on the alignment of the hips and the placement of the foot en pointe, you will develop the control necessary for the center floor. In the center, we shift our focus to balance and pirouettes. Turning en pointe requires precise timing and a strong core.
To help you master this, we break down the pirouette into manageable increments, such as quarter and half turns. This incremental approach allows you to find your center of gravity and perfect your spotting before attempting full rotations. You will also practice the développé to improve leg extension and control.
Flow and transitions are equally important in this intermediate curriculum. We incorporate steps like the pas de bourrée, tombé, and chassé to create fluid movements between positions. You will also explore waltz steps, focusing on weight transfer and timing.
Throughout the lesson, our instructor provides detailed demonstrations of the arabesque and balancé, ensuring you maintain proper form and elegance. Whether you are practicing in a studio or at home, this class offers the technical drills needed to enhance your confidence and skill en pointe.
