About This Video
Mastering the art of turning en pointe requires a delicate balance of strength, alignment, and timing. In this intermediate Broche Ballet class, we step away from the barre to focus specifically on en dedans pirouettes in the center. Whether you are a seasoned dancer looking to refine your technique or an intermediate student building confidence, this session provides the tools needed to execute on-to-down turns with grace and precision.
The class begins with essential foundational work. We revisit the basics of proper turnout and postural alignment through a series of plié, tendu, and relevé exercises. These movements are designed to establish a strong center of gravity and ensure your weight is correctly distributed over your pointe shoes.
By engaging the core muscles early on, you create the stability necessary for complex rotations. A key focus of this lesson is the mechanics of the "on-to-down" motion. The instructor guides you through the process of shifting weight from the back foot to the front.
We utilize fondu to find depth in our preparation and tombé to practice the dynamic weight transfers required for center work. You will learn how to use a passé position and promenade to test your balance before introducing momentum. As the class progresses, we move from stationary stability to rotational movement.
We start with small quarter turns, experimenting with different stances like the lunge and fourth position. This gradual approach allows you to feel the alignment of your shoulders and hips, preventing common errors such as leaning or twisting. The instructor provides helpful tips on widening your stance and using your arms to add flair without sacrificing control.
By the end of the 16-minute practice, you will combine these elements into a final center combination. This sequence incorporates bourrée and other transitions, allowing you to showcase your progress. Join Broche Ballet for this focused technique session and find your comfort zone in center pointe work.
