About This Video
Welcome to this 15-minute intermediate ballet center practice, designed specifically for dancers who have moved away from the barre and are ready to refine their stability and movement quality en pointe. In this session at Broche Ballet, we dive into the complexities of "just center" work, focusing on the essential strength and alignment needed for fluid transitions and secure turns. The class begins with challenging exercises for the passé and retiré, emphasizing the importance of a strong, simultaneous push from both legs to find your center.
We address the common mistake of letting the hips shift; instead, our instructor guides you on how to move the spine and back as one unit to maintain a vertical axis. You will work through a series of bourrées, practicing the tiny, delicate steps that create a seamless gliding effect across the floor. A significant portion of this lesson is dedicated to technical precision in movements like soutenu and chassé.
We explore the sauté-like push required to step up onto the box of the shoe with confidence. Proper timing is everything en pointe, and you will learn why connecting the foot to the knee sooner in a passé prevents the leg from wobbling or closing prematurely. Throughout the class, we incorporate balancé and cou-de-pied movements to test your weight placement.
We also tackle the mental aspect of pointe work: trusting your shoes and your hip strength to support you during extensions and turns. By focusing on keeping the shoulders moving and the hips forward, you will avoid falling off the box or pulling back onto your heels. Whether you are working toward your first center pirouette or refining your reverence, this focused practice provides the technical corrections necessary for intermediate growth.
Join Broche Ballet as we transition from the safety of the barre to the freedom of the center.
