About This Video
Celebrate your holiday with a focus on precision and strength in this special Labor Day Ballet Barre class from Broche Ballet. This 43-minute session is designed as a comprehensive warm-up that caters to dancers of various skill levels, offering a robust foundation for your daily practice. Our "Barre for All" sequence takes you through the essential building blocks of classical technique, starting with deep pliés and articulated tendus.
As we move into dégagés, the focus shifts to differentiating movement quality—finding the contrast between slow, sustained extensions and sharp, quick footwork. A key highlight of this class is the technical focus on "sandwiching" the calves during coup de pied exercises, ensuring the heel is pulled forward to maintain active turnout from the hip. Stability is a major theme throughout this workout.
You will practice maintaining proper hip alignment during cambré and fondu, learning to keep the outside hip back and stable rather than twisting toward the barre. This attention to detail extends to the upper body, where we incorporate fluid port de bras and intentional head turns. By coordinating the arms and eyes with the movements of the legs, you will improve your overall artistic expression and balance.
The class progresses through rond de jambe, développé, and grand battement, culminating in options for pirouette and sous-sus to test your center of gravity. Whether you are looking to refine your posture or challenge your core engagement, this class provides the tools to elevate your dancing. Join us at Broche Ballet to improve your foot articulation, find your center, and build the strength necessary for effortless movement.
