About This Video
Welcome to Part 2 of our Men’s Ballet Barre series at Broche Ballet, specifically designed to cultivate the explosive power and refined control needed for virtuoso movements like jumps and turns à la seconde. In this 45-minute session, we dive deep into the mechanics of strength, moving beyond simple repetition to focus on the intentional work that builds true athletic capability. The instructor guides you through a curriculum that prioritizes precision and upper body stability, ensuring you are ready for the demands of center work.
The class begins with a rigorous warm-up featuring complex plié and relevé sequences. By slowing down these fundamental movements, we challenge the muscles to engage more deeply, creating a stable foundation for the dynamic exercises to come. A major focus of this session is the relationship between the breath and movement. You will learn how proper breathing techniques can paradoxically provide both the power needed for height and the lightness required for graceful landings. We emphasize that while slow movements can be challenging, they are the key to unlocking true power.
We progress through a series of fondu variations designed to test your balance and leg strength. The instructor emphasizes the importance of keeping the ribs facing front and maintaining a square pelvis, even as the working leg moves through various heights. You will be reminded to stretch through the toes and fully extend through every piqué and développé to ensure maximum reach and aesthetic line. One of the most critical takeaways is the technique of keeping the standing knee open during transitions, a common pitfall that can hinder stability during turns. As we move toward the final exercises, we incorporate plié relevé patterns that mimic the takeoff for jumps, ensuring that your muscles are primed for speed and precision. By the end of this Broche Ballet class, you will feel a renewed sense of power in your lower body and a greater awareness of your upper body alignment.
